The Best Remedies for Dry Hair

It’s never fun to have dry hair. When your hair is dry, it both looks and feels brittle and weak; it’s more prone to damage, and less prone to boosting your self-confidence. The good news is that you don’t have to settle for dry hair. Not only can you remedy it, but you can do so easily and inexpensively, with ingredients you already have at home.

We’ll provide just a a few examples in the paragraphs below—some of our favorite, most trusted dry hair solutions.

How to Repair Dry, Brittle Hair

  • Massage your hair in butter. Return your brittle hair to its normal, glossy shine by rubbing a small amount of butter into it; cover it with a shower cap, let it sit for half an hour or so, and then thoroughly shampoo your hair like normal.
  • Rinse with green tea. Grab some organic green tea—nothing with added sugars or preservatives—and brew a cup. Allow it to cool completely, then use it to rinse your hair thoroughly massaging your scalp deeply. Then, shampoo your hair like normal.
  • Crack an egg! Get one small egg and mix it thoroughly with your normal shampoo. Then use the egg/shampoo combination to thoroughly wash your hair. Rinse it well when you are done. This is a great way to fortify your hair with protein.
  • Try some sandalwood oil. Mix just a few small drops of sandalwood oil with a little bit of olive oil. Put that mixture between your palms, and then run your hands through your hair, smoothing it down and working the oil mix deep into your scalp.
  • Stop using the blow dryer. Hair appliances that use heat can, of course, dry your hair to an unhealthy extent. If possible, stop using these hot appliances altogether. Instead of blow drying your hair, wrap it with a towel, gently dab it dry, then let the rest of it air dry.
  • Use a humidifier in your room. A final way to get more moisture for your hair? Add more moisture to your environment. Plug in a humidifier in your bedroom, and run it at night while you’re asleep.
